How many cores are enough? Optimizing the transperineal prostate biopsy template

Christian Schaufler et al.

Summary: In this study, a 20-core systematic biopsy template for transperineal prostate biopsy (TP-B) was found to detect a greater number of clinically significant prostate cancers compared to a 10-core TP template. The detection of GG2 or above clinically significant cancers was higher with the 20-core template, while the detection of GG1 cancers was lower. A minimum 12-core systematic biopsy template is proposed for men undergoing TP-B.

Comparison of micro-ultrasound and multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging for prostate cancer: A multicenter, prospective analysis

Laurence Klotz et al.

Summary: In this study comparing micro-ultrasound and mpMRI for the detection of clinically significant prostate cancer, micro-ultrasound demonstrated higher sensitivity compared to mpMRI, with similar specificity. Micro-ultrasound is a low-cost, single-session option for prostate screening and targeted biopsy. More large-scale studies are needed to validate these findings.

Evolution of Targeted Prostate Biopsy by Adding Micro-Ultrasound to the Magnetic Resonance Imaging Pathway

Summary: The study evaluated micro-ultrasound of the prostate with real-time targeting of suspicious regions in patients suspected to have prostate cancer and found potential benefits in detecting cancer and clinically significant cancer. Micro-ultrasound appears to be a valuable addition and alternative to traditional ultrasound methods.

Diagnostic accuracy of the Novel 29 MHz micro-ultrasound ExactVu™ for the detection of clinically significant prostate cancer: A prospective single institutional study. A step forward in the diagnosis of prostate cancer

Francesco Chessa et al.

Summary: ExactVu(TM) shows a sensitivity of 68%, specificity of 73%, PPV of 93%, and NPV of 31% in detecting CsPCa, with an AUC of 0.7. When focusing on CsPCa in the peripheral zone, the sensitivity, specificity, PPV, and NPV increase to 74%, 75%, 94%, and 33% respectively, with an AUC of 0.75. Further studies are needed to confirm these promising results.

Diagnostic accuracy and clinical implications of robotic assisted MRI-US fusion guided target saturation biopsy of the prostate

Christian Wetterauer et al.

Summary: This study compared different biopsy core strategies and found that target-saturation biopsy had higher accuracy in intralesional detection of clinically significant prostate cancer, better characterization of Gleason score, reduced risk of missing significant cancer, and potential impact on changing treatment decisions in patients. Target-saturation biopsy concept introduced in this work has the potential to improve diagnostic accuracy and facilitate individual staging procedures and treatment choices.

Oncological and functional outcome after partial prostate HIFU ablation with Focal-One(R): a prospective single-center study

Marco Dellabella et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the oncological and functional outcomes of HIFU ablation of the index lesion in prostate cancer using Focal-One(R). The results demonstrated satisfactory early oncological outcomes with some complications, and inadequate ablation of anteriorly located tumors. Follow-up showed preserved urinary function but slight decrease in sexual function.

Summary: The study assessed the efficacy of high-resolution microultrasound in diagnosing csCaP in patients with PI-RADS 3 lesions, showing high sensitivity and negative predictive values. Microultrasound can accurately predict CaP, helping to reduce the overdiagnosis of insignificant CaP.
