Generating Dual-Polarized Vortex Beam by Detour Phase: From Phase Gradient Metasurfaces to Metagratings

Kuang Zhang et al.

Summary: This study introduces a novel method for generating dual-polarized vortex beams by introducing detour phase and modulating phase through adjusting the position of meta-atoms. Two types of unit cells are designed to achieve specific diffraction order, enabling independent adjustment of TE and TM polarizations as well as fabrication of vortex beam generators with different topological charges. The ability to manipulate polarizations independently is demonstrated by designing generators with different polarizations in different frequency bands, showing great potential for polarization division multiplexing in OAM communication systems.

Neural network enabled metasurface design for phase manipulation

Li Jiang et al.

Summary: The phase of electromagnetic waves can be manipulated and tailored by artificial metasurfaces using deep learning tools, allowing for accurate prediction of phase values and direct inverse design for on-demand phase requirements. Additionally, simultaneous phase and group delay prediction has been achieved to satisfy achromatic metalens design requirements, indicating significantly improved design capabilities for complex metasurfaces.

Summary: The connection between Maxwell's equations and artificial neural networks has revolutionized nanophotonic design, providing efficiency and convenience. However, transitioning from conventional design methods to machine-learning tools can be challenging due to a steep learning curve. The web-based design tool with a trained deep neural network offers a user-friendly and efficient alternative to traditional full-wave simulations.
