Combined pollution of arsenic and Polymyxin B enhanced arsenic toxicity and enriched ARG abundance in soil and earthworm gut microbiotas

Lyu Li et al.

Summary: The combined pollution of PMB and As has significant effects on the microbial composition of soil and earthworm gut, as well as the spread of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs). The addition of PMB and As increases the bioaccumulation factor and toxicity of As in earthworm tissues. Both PMB and As stress result in an increase in the abundance of ARGs and mobile genetic elements, suggesting potential horizontal gene transfer. The inactivation of antibiotics is the main resistance mechanism against PMB and As stress, and network analysis shows antagonistic effects with multi-drug resistant ARGs.

Dissipation, accumulation and risk assessment of fungicides after repeated spraying on greenhouse strawberry

Zhiwei Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that the fungicide pyraclostrobin had a significantly shortened half-life after alternate repeated spraying; while the other three fungicides showed similar half-lives after single and alternate repeated spraying. The octanol-water partition coefficient was a more efficient indicator of the half-life order of the fungicides than vapor pressure and water solubility. The accumulation risk of fungicide residue varied, with potentially higher dietary risks after alternate repeated spraying.

Characterization of a novel carbendazim-degrading strain Rhodococcus sp. CX-1 revealed by genome and transcriptome analyses

Zhengnan Long et al.

Summary: A novel bacterium Rhodococcus sp. CX-1 was isolated from contaminated soil, capable of efficiently degrading carbendazim as its sole source of carbon and energy. The degradation rate of carbendazim was highest at 40 degrees C and pH 7.0 for strain CX-1. Transcriptome analysis predicted two different pathways for carbendazim degradation.
