Enhanced Adsorption of Methyl Orange by Mongolian Montmorillonite after Aluminum Pillaring

A simple cation exchange model to assess the competitive adsorption between the herbicide paraquat and the biocide benzalkonium chloride on montmorillonite

Summary: This study analyzed the competitive behavior between the cationic herbicide paraquat and a benzalkonium chloride compound on montmorillonite through adsorption experiments and a theoretical cation exchange model. The results indicated that higher initial concentrations of BAC decreased the maximum adsorbed amount of PQ, with the total adsorbed amount being close to the clay's CEC value. The theoretical model successfully predicted the behavior of larger cations like PQ and BAC, showing that the cation exchange process was spontaneous towards adsorbed BAC.

Microscopic adsorption mechanism of montmorillonite for common ciprofloxacin emerging contaminant: Molecular dynamics simulation and Multiwfn wave function analysis

High-performance mixed-matrix membranes enabled by organically/inorganic modified montmorillonite for the treatment of hazardous textile wastewater

Effect of interlayer cations on montmorillonite swelling: Comparison between molecular dynamic simulations and experiments

Summary: This study investigated the crystalline swelling behavior of montmorillonite with different interlayer cations using molecular dynamics simulations and experimental measurements. Results showed that hydration free energy of interlayer cations and their coordination mode play a crucial role in the swelling behavior. The preference of outer- or inner-sphere complex of interlayer cations and the distribution of cations also significantly impact the swelling behavior.
