A physical investigation of dimensional and mechanical characteristics of 3D printed nut and bolt for industrial applications

Ramesh Chand et al.

Summary: This study investigates the dimensional precision, surface properties, mechanical properties, and scanning electron microscope (SEM) of nut-bolt components fabricated using a multi-jet 3D printer. The findings show that the 3D printer is suitable for commercial production, although there is a decrease in mechanical properties when moving from one section to another.

Fused filament fabrication of nylon 6/66 copolymer: parametric study comparing full factorial and Taguchi design of experiments

Kaifur Rashed et al.

Summary: This study compares the differences between full factorial and Taguchi design of experiments (DoEs) in terms of their effects on the mechanical and surface properties of Nylon 6/66 in Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) process. It also analyzes the failure mechanism and proposes a theory based on the results. The findings suggest that fill density has the greatest effect on properties, and Taguchi DoE is a more efficient technique.

Transient thermal finite-element analysis of fused filament fabrication process

Chitralekha Nahar et al.

Summary: This study simulates the fused filament fabrication (FFF) process using temperature-dependent thermal properties and investigates the effects of processing parameters on interface temperature and bond formation time. The results show that the first interface has the longest bond formation time, and higher temperatures of the extruder and envelope, larger extruder diameter, and lower convective heat transfer coefficient can increase the bond formation time.

Investigation of suitable material and adhesion promoter combinations for fused filament fabrication on flexible silicone build plates

Thomas Herzog et al.

Summary: To extend the vacuum-assisted multipoint moulding (VAMM) technology, the authors developed the enhanced vacuum-assisted multipoint moulding with additive attachments (EMMA) technology, which requires additive manufactured attachments on a curved silicone surface. This study investigates various filament and adhesion promoter combinations for fused filament fabrication (FFF) on silicone build plates. The results show that unheated silicone build plates are suitable for FFF with polylactide filament and various adhesion promoters, with the highest adhesion strength achieved using an adhesive foil. The study also demonstrates the differences in the first layer manifestation depending on the adhesion promoter used.

A Pelvic Reconstruction Procedure for Custom-Made Prosthesis Design of Bone Tumor Surgical Treatments

Gilda Durastanti et al.

Summary: Limb salvage procedures in orthopaedic oncology have become more common with recent advancements in medical imaging, biomechanical modeling, and additive manufacturing. However, surgical reconstruction with metal implants after tumor resection in the pelvis remains challenging due to the complexity of anatomical structures involved. This study aims to provide a consistent procedure to guide surgeons and bioengineers in the design of proper implants.

Three-dimensional semi-automated volumetric assessment of the pulp space of teeth following regenerative dental procedures

Heeresh Shetty et al.

Summary: This study compared the accuracy of two artificial intelligence-based medical imaging programs, OsiriX MD and 3D Slicer, in estimating the volume of pulp space following regenerative endodontic procedures (REPs). The results showed a significant decrease in pulp space volume measured by both programs, with no significant difference in accuracy between them. 3D Slicer, an open-source software program, was found to be as accurate as the commercially available OsiriX MD in volumetric assessment of post-REP pulp space.

The influence of process parameters on the impact resistance of 3D printed PLA specimens under water-absorption and heat-treated conditions

Pradeep Kumar Mishra et al.

Summary: The study analyzes the impact of water absorption and heat treatment on the impact strength of 3D printed specimens, proposing a low-cost post-processing technique to enhance impact strength significantly. Experimental findings highlight the importance of raster orientation in impact resistance, revealing post-processing heat treatment as a more convenient option compared to water absorption in terms of processing time and cost.
