Assessment of Geotechnical Properties of Oil Contaminated Subgrade Soil: Review

Walied A. H. Elsaigh et al.

Summary: Soil contamination by hydrocarbons can have detrimental implications on geotechnical properties, affecting consistency, strength, and microstructural aspects. The behavior of contaminated soil depends on the degree of hydrocarbon content and the nature of the soil, with strength properties being influenced by clay minerals rather than just density. Further study on the long-term effects of petroleum contaminants on soil properties is crucial for understanding their impact beyond the initial 30-day assessment period.

Solidification/Stabilization of Contaminated Soil in a South Station of the Khurmala Oil Field in Kurdistan Region, Iraq

Sazan Nariman Abdulhamid et al.

Summary: The study aimed to reduce pollution caused by oil production in soil and reuse it as a construction material using the solidification/stabilization method with CEM II. Results indicated that CEM II performed better than OPC in soil remediation, leading to significant improvements in permeability, shear strength parameters, and California bearing ratio of the treated soils.
