Summary: Soil compost amendment and selection of halo/thermo-tolerant bacteria from the rhizosphere of glicophytes and halophytes can help mitigate the impacts of soil salinization and desertification on agriculture. Compost not only increases crop growth and biomass, but also enhances their resilience to stress caused by high soil electric conductivity. The use of compost has proven to be a valuable source of highly halo-/thermo-tolerant rhizobacteria with plant growth promoting features.
