Low-power and reliable gas sensing system based on recurrent neural networks

Dongseok Kwon et al.

Summary: A new gas sensing system based on recurrent neural networks (RNNs) has been proposed for reliable gas identification, showing better performance and lower error rates compared to fully connected neural networks (FCNNs) in high-level simulations. The system design includes a hardware-based and low-power neural system for gas detection with sensors, synaptic devices, and peripheral circuits, proving to have excellent accuracy in predicting gas outputs. This research demonstrates the effectiveness of using RNNs in training neural systems for gas detection, with results matching high-level simulations.

Summary: The study demonstrates the cointegration of multistate single-transistor neurons and synapses on highly scalable neuromorphic hardware, achieved through nanoscale CMOS fabrication. This integration allows for enhanced packing density, reduced chip cost, and simplified fabrication procedures. The fabricated single-transistor neurons and synapses exhibit spatiotemporal neuronal functionalities, with applications in image processing for pattern recognition and face image recognition.
