Summary: The emergence of NIR-II activated photomedicines has significantly expanded the penetration depth for noninvasive theranostics; However, there is a lack of thorough review for NIR-II inorganic PTAs, with most comparisons made with NIR-I PTAs; This review aims to inspire further development of NIR-II activated inorganic PTAs with good photothermal conversion ability and potential biomedical applications.
