Study on capacitance properties of the sputtered carbon doped titanium nitride electrode material for supercapacitor

Jing Shi et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the use of carbon-doped titanium nitride film (TiN/C) as an electrode material for supercapacitors. The results show that the carbon doping greatly enhances the capacitive properties and cycling stability of the TiN film electrode. The incorporation of carbon into the transition metal nitride is an effective method to improve the capacitance performance of the electrode.

Activated carbon from lignocellulosic biomass as catalyst: A review of the applications in fast pyrolysis process

Dengle Duan et al.

Summary: Activated carbon (AC) is widely used in various important fields, and the conversion of renewable lignocellulosic biomass (LB) is an economical and environmentally friendly way to produce AC. This review summarizes the effects of various process parameters on AC production and discusses the properties and characteristics of AC derived from LB, as well as its application in fast catalytic pyrolysis processes. Comparisons of catalytic performance between LB-derived AC, commercial AC, and zeolite-based catalysts for upgrading bio-oil are also investigated in this study.

Preparation and Application of Efficient Biobased Carbon Adsorbents Prepared from Spruce Bark Residues for Efficient Removal of Reactive Dyes and Colors from Synthetic Effluents

Glaydson Simoes dos Reis et al.

Summary: Biobased carbon materials were produced from Norway spruce bark using single-step chemical activation and pyrolysis. The KOH-BBC had higher surface area, larger pore volume, and more hydrophilic surface compared to ZnCl2-BBC, but with lower carbon yield. Both BBCs showed high efficiency in removing dyes and treating synthetic effluents, with KOH-BBC being superior in purification ability.

Application of design of experiments (DoE) for optimised production of micro- and mesoporous Norway spruce bark activated carbons

Glaydson Simoes dos Reis et al.

Summary: Norway spruce bark was used as a precursor for preparing activated carbon using zinc chloride as a chemical activator. The optimal conditions for achieving high specific surface area, mesopore surface area, and micropore surface area were determined. The activated carbons showed predominant mesoporous structures and were successfully tested for adsorption of sodium diclofenac from aqueous solutions.

Comparison of acidic leaching using a conventional and ultrasound-assisted method for preparation of magnetic-activated biochar

Diana R. Lima et al.

Summary: The study prepared four different magnetic biochars using a combination of Sappeli sawdust with NiCl2 or NiCl2 plus ZnCl2 solutions and a leaching process assisted by ultrasound. The biochars showed good magnetization saturation and lower leaching time compared to conventional methods. The addition of zinc chloride increased the surface areas of the biochars, influencing their sorption capacities for various sorbing species.

Flexible supercapacitors of biomass-based activated carbon-polypyrrole on eggshell membranes

Glaydson Simoes dos Reis et al.

Summary: This study developed biomass-based supercapacitors for application in advanced electronic devices with flexible structures, achieving promising results in terms of areal capacitance, energy density, power density, and cycle retention after 1000 cycles. By varying the amount of polypyrrole during its polymerization process, the competition between activated carbon and the hybrid device was controlled, showing the potential for improved performance in flexible membrane-like supercapacitors.

A review of porous carbons produced by template methods for supercapacitor applications

Wei Zhang et al.

Summary: Porous carbons are widely used in energy storage and conversion due to their excellent electrical conductivity, high specific surface area, and superb electrochemical stability. The template method is an advanced approach to prepare porous carbons with well-defined pore structures and suitable pore size distributions. Different types of templates, including hard, soft, and self-templates, are summarized for the preparation of porous carbons for supercapacitor electrodes, along with suggestions for future research in tailoring the pore texture.
