Theory of MBE Growth of Nanowires on Reflecting Substrates

Vladimir G. Dubrovskii

Summary: Selective area growth of III-V nanowires using molecular beam epitaxy and related techniques offers advantages over growth on unpatterned substrates. This paper presents an analytic model that accurately predicts the growth process of nanowires, and provides good agreement with experimental data.

Simulating Vapor-Liquid-Solid Growth of Au-Seeded InGaAs Nanowires

Erik K. Martensson et al.

Summary: The study presents a method for simulating the complex cyclical dynamics of ternary III-V nanowire growth using a kinetic Monte Carlo framework. Results show that the composition of the liquid seed as well as the attachment and detachment processes of III-V pairs to the solid nanowire significantly affect the composition of the nanowire.

In Situ Monitoring of MBE Growth of a Single Self-Catalyzed GaAs Nanowire by X-ray Diffraction

Seyed Mohammad Mostafavi Kashani et al.

Summary: The growth of self-catalyzed GaAs nanowires on patterned Si substrates was monitored using micro X-ray diffraction, revealing two growth stages: axial growth and radial growth. This study provides insights into the fundamental growth mechanisms of nanowires and demonstrates the feasibility of in situ growth experiments using synchrotron radiation for future electronics and optoelectronics integration with silicon platforms.

Unified treatments for localized surface plasmon resonance and propagating surface plasmon polariton based on resonance modes in metal nanowire

Yuqing Cheng et al.

Summary: This study solves Maxwell's Equations to obtain the properties of PSPP and LSPR supported in Ag nanowire and Au nanorod, analyzing the propagation length and transmitted spectra, and unifying the two phenomena by finding they result from the same mechanism. The work provides an alternative way to describe SPP modes and is helpful for applications using SPP.

Simultaneous Selective Area Growth of Wurtzite and Zincblende Self-Catalyzed GaAs Nanowires on Silicon

Vladimir G. Dubrovskii et al.

Summary: The study proposed a mixed approach to restrict self-assembly growth of nanomaterials in limited areas, revealing a wide distribution of nanowire diameters but mostly binary crystal phases. Additionally, it was found that thicker GaAs nanowires are zincblende phase while thinner ones are wurtzite phase, contrary to common beliefs.

Defect-Free Axially Stacked GaAs/GaAsP Nanowire Quantum Dots with Strong Carrier Confinement

Yunyan Zhang et al.

Summary: This study reports a detailed investigation of self-catalyzed GaAsP NWs containing defect-free axial GaAs QDs. The QDs exhibit high structural quality and can maintain a narrow emission line width even after being stored in ambient atmosphere for over 6 months. This research provides a solid foundation for the development of high-performance axially stacked NWQD devices compatible with CMOS technologies.

Reconsideration of Nanowire Growth Theory at Low Temperatures

Vladimir G. Dubrovskii

Summary: A growth model is presented to describe the length and radius evolution of nanowires during low-temperature metal-catalyzed or selective area growth, considering surface diffusion transport and radial growth. The growth process is shown to proceed in two steps, leading to a non-linear increase in length with time and radial growth. The nanowire radii converge to a stationary value in the large time limit, showing a size-narrowing effect.
