Liquid CO2 injection to enhance coalbed methane recovery: An experiment and in-situ application test

Gaoming Wei et al.

Summary: Recent studies have shown that liquid CO2 injection can increase the recovery rate of coalbed methane, with the sweep efficiency of CH4 recovery reaching over 92.0% under low-pressure injection. The competitive adsorption between CO2 and CH4 enhances CH4 recovery, while the dilution effect of high-concentration CO2 leads to inefficiency in methane extraction. In-situ tests in Chinese mining areas have demonstrated that the effective migration radius of CO2 in coalbeds can exceed 15m, significantly improving methane extraction rates and reducing extraction times.

Enhancing coalbed methane recovery with liquid CO2 fracturing in underground coal mine: From experiment to field application

Shixing Fan et al.

Summary: This study introduces a new underground coal permeability enhancement technique using liquid CO2 fracturing. Key parameters and influence radius of L-CO2 fracturing were determined through experiments and calculation models. The development of equipment and field test results confirmed the effectiveness of coal permeability enhancement through L-CO2 fracturing.

The graded warning method of coal spontaneous combustion in Tangjiahui Mine

Duo Zhang et al.

Summary: This study conducted experiments on coal spontaneous combustion and analyzed characteristic gas parameters, leading to the division of coal spontaneous combustion into seven stages. By providing early warning criteria and characteristic gas parameter threshold values, the degree of coal spontaneous combustion in the working face was successfully predicted, ensuring safe evacuation.

Enhanced coalbed permeability and methane recovery via hydraulic slotting combined with liquid CO2 injection

Gaoming Wei et al.

Summary: The study utilizes hydraulic slotting and liquid CO2 injection to enhance coalbed permeability and methane recovery efficiency. The results show a significant increase in coal porosity and permeability, leading to more than 90% CBM recovery efficiency. The in-situ test indicates effective radii for HS and LCO2 injection were 2.5 m and 10 m, respectively, with a 2.2-fold increase in CBM recovery efficiency.

Simultaneous injection of chemical agents and carbon dioxide to enhance the sweep efficiency from fractured tight core samples

Rahmad Syah et al.

Summary: Foams are efficient chemical agents to enhance oil recovery factor and play a significant role in mobility control. The co-injection of foam and CO2 has been found to be an optimal scenario for fractured tight core samples. Experimental results show that the optimum foam quality is 0.65, and five injection cycles are the most effective for improving oil recovery factor. The presence of a foaming agent in CO2 enhances the efficiency of CO2-foam injection, leading to a total oil recovery factor of about 83%.
