Investigation of carbide precipitations on microstructure and hardness of medium carbon Cr-Ni austenite stainless hardfacing deposit with high wear resistance properties

Dok Su Paek et al.

Summary: This study enhances the wear resistance of medium carbon Cr-Ni austenite stainless steel by using shielded metal arc welding. The precipitation of carbides formed by Cr, Mo, and V in the austenite matrix and at the grain boundaries contributes to the high surface hardness (HB 300-500) of the deposited hardfacing metals, resulting in improved wear resistance.

Recrystallization and Grain Growth of AISI 904L Super-Austenitic Stainless Steel: A Multivariate Regression Approach

Giulia Stornelli et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the evolution of microstructure and hardness values in AISI 904L stainless steel after cold rolling and subsequent annealing, aiming to optimize the thermomechanical treatment conditions and improve production efficiency. The results show that for lower treatment temperatures, partial recrystallization occurs, while for higher temperatures, full recrystallization can be achieved in a short time. Grain growth behavior is independent of the reduction ratio and shows a linear trend with soaking time. The statistical analysis reveals that temperature and soaking time have more significant effects on hardness values compared to the reduction ratio.

Effects of applied stress and grain size on creep-rupture lifetime prediction for Haynes 282 alloy

Michael L. Santella et al.

Summary: The study used multiple data sets from a single laboratory to analyze the creep lifetime prediction of aged Haynes 282 alloy, showing the need to consider two different modes under different temperature and stress conditions for more accurate predictions. Additionally, the difference in grain size has an impact on the predictive ability of creep lifetime.

A general mechanism of grain growth -I. Theory

Jianfeng Hu et al.

Summary: A new migration model of grain boundary is proposed, and a mathematical expression is derived to depict the general evolution of grain growth in cellular structures. The model reveals how the normal, abnormal, and stagnant behaviors of grain growth occur in polycrystalline systems. Quantitative correlation between GB roughening transition and grain growth behavior is established.

Creep rupture mechanisms and life prediction of IN617 for VHTR applications

Yue Wang et al.

Summary: The study systematically investigated the creep rupture mechanisms of IN617 by establishing the relationship between microstructural characteristics and creep performance. Different rupture mechanisms were identified under various conditions, such as sliding and migration of recrystallized grain boundaries, creep voids along the grain boundaries, and microstructural degradation and internal oxidization, which ultimately accelerated creep rupture.

Effect of Prior Austenite Grain Size on the Annealing Twin Density and Hardness in Austenitic Stainless Steel

Mochammad Syaiful Anwar et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of prior austenite grain size on twin density and hardness of austenitic stainless steels. The results showed that 253 MA ASS had a lower SFE and K value than 316L ASS, resulting in a higher twin density and hardness. The Sellars, Pande, and Hall-Petch models were able to predict austenite grain sizes, twin density, and hardness in the tested steels.

Understanding the Stress Rupture Behavior and Microstructural Changes in Austenitic Stainless Steel SS321

M. Manokaran et al.

Summary: The Ti-stabilized austenitic stainless steel SS321 underwent stress rupture tests, showing shorter creep life at high temperatures and stresses, while the creep life increased at lower temperatures and stresses. This phenomenon may be related to the microstructure of the material and grain boundary sliding phenomenon.
