Stacking Fault Energy Determination in Fe-Mn-Al-C Austenitic Steels by X-ray Diffraction

Jaime A. Castaneda et al.

Summary: A critical assessment was conducted to determine the stacking fault energy (SFE) of the austenite phase in high manganese steels using X-ray diffraction (XRD), revealing a substantial variation in SFE with chosen elastic constants, leading to potential errors of up to 37%. The study aimed to establish a more direct and reliable methodology for calculating SFE by XRD, and found that uncertainty in elastic constants can significantly impact the estimated values.

Evolution of microstructure, texture and mechanical properties of Fe-30Mn-11Al-1.2C low-density steel during cold rolling

P. Ren et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigated the evolution of microstructure and texture as well as mechanical properties during cold rolling of Fe-30Mn-11Al-1.2C steel. The yield strength of the steel was significantly enhanced with cold rolling, and different deformation substructures were formed in sequence. The rolling texture of the steel transitioned from copper-type to brass-type with increasing rolling reduction.

Deformation Mechanism Investigation on Low Density 18Mn Steels under Different Solid Solution Treatments

Yong-Tao Huo et al.

Summary: The experimental results showed that the 18Mn-1.5Al experimental steel was dominated by the twinning-induced plasticity effect under tensile deformation, while the addition of 7% aluminum affected the SFE of austenite in the steel, and the presence of delta-ferrite significantly inhibited the TWIP effect.
