Association Between 3 Doses of mRNA COVID-19 Vaccine and Symptomatic Infection Caused by the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron and Delta Variants

Emma K. Accorsi et al.

Summary: Assessing the performance of COVID-19 vaccines against the Omicron variant is crucial for public health guidance. This study found that receiving three doses of mRNA COVID-19 vaccine was associated with a lower likelihood of symptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection compared to being unvaccinated or receiving two doses. These findings suggest that three doses of mRNA vaccine provide protection against both Omicron and Delta variants, though the protection against Omicron may be slightly lower.

Matthew E. Oster et al.

Summary: Based on reports in the US, the risk of myocarditis after receiving mRNA-based COVID-19 vaccines was increased, especially among adolescent males and young men, particularly after the second dose. This risk should be considered in the context of the benefits of COVID-19 vaccination.

The Evaluation of Oxidative Stress in the Young Adults with COVID-19 mRNA Vaccines Induced Acute Pericarditis- Myopericarditis

Ali Dogan Dursun et al.

Summary: This study found that vaccine-induced myopericarditis is associated with abnormalities in oxidative stress tests, while there is no relationship between NO levels and other oxidative stress tests in vaccine-induced acute pericarditis. This suggests that vaccine-induced pericarditis and myopericarditis may have different pathogenesis.

Summary: This study evaluated the association between mRNA COVID-19 vaccines and COVID-19 hospitalization, as well as disease progression to critical illness among hospitalized patients. The results showed that vaccination with mRNA COVID-19 vaccines significantly decreased the likelihood of COVID-19 hospitalization and disease progression to death or mechanical ventilation.

Prevalence of Clinical and Subclinical Myocarditis in Competitive Athletes With Recent SARS-CoV-2 Infection Results From the Big Ten COVID-19 Cardiac Registry

Curt J. Daniels et al.

Summary: In this study of 1597 competitive athletes in the US who underwent CMR screening after COVID-19 infection, 37 athletes (2.3%) were diagnosed with clinical and subclinical myocarditis. There was variability in prevalence across universities, and testing protocols were closely associated with the detection of myocarditis. The unique CMR imaging data highlight the need for standardized timing and interpretation of cardiac testing for safe return to play in athletes.

Cardiovascular Characteristics and Outcomes of Young Patients with COVID-19

Antonin Trimaille et al.

Summary: Data from the Critical COVID France (CCF) study showed that young patients aged 18-45 years old hospitalized for COVID-19 had a lower incidence of primary outcomes, such as transfer to the ICU or in-hospital death, compared to older patients. However, they were more likely to experience cardiovascular complications like pericarditis and myocarditis. This suggests that while young patients have a better prognosis in terms of severe outcomes, COVID-19 may have a particular impact on their cardiovascular system.
