Hypersexuality in Mixed-Sex Couples: A Dyadic Longitudinal Study

Association of ADHD and hypersexuality and paraphilias

Lorenzo Soldati et al.

Summary: The literature review examines the association between ADHD, hypersexuality, and paraphilias, finding that individuals with ADHD may report these behaviors but the frequency of hypersexuality and paraphilias in the ADHD population is not definitively established. Conversely, studies suggest a high prevalence of ADHD in individuals with hypersexuality and paraphilias. The review is limited by methodological differences, varying measurement instruments, and small sample sizes in existing studies.

Hypersexuality and Trauma: a mediation and moderation model from psychopathology to problematic sexual behavior

Lilybeth Fontanesi et al.

Summary: The study explored the impact pathway of trauma, depression, shame, and guilt on hypersexual behavior, revealing direct effects of post-traumatic symptoms on hypersexuality and indirect effects through depression and guilt. Male gender was identified as a relevant risk factor for hypersexual behavior. It suggests hypersexuality as a reactive form of major affective psychopathology involving depression, shame, and guilt.

Laiana A. Quagliato et al.

Summary: This study reveals the impact of childhood trauma on proinflammatory state in adulthood, with different types of childhood abuse leading to differential inflammatory responses and specific traumatic events affecting specific inflammatory markers. The findings contribute to a better understanding of the influence of trauma exposure on pathophysiological processes in Panic Disorder and may have implications for personalized medicine.

Profiles of Emotion Regulation and Post-Traumatic Stress Severity among Female Victims of Intimate Partner Violence

Marina Munoz-Rivas et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the variability of emotional dysregulation among women with different types of IPV revictimization and post-traumatic stress, and identified three profiles of emotional regulation. The results showed that the Emotional Overwhelm group exhibited a general dysregulation of emotional experiences and more intense post-traumatic stress symptoms, while women who experienced multiple episodes of IPV by different partners displayed a differential pattern of emotional regulation leading to greater psychopathology.

An empirical study of affective and cognitive functions in Compulsive Sexual Behavior Disorder

Malgorzata Draps et al.

Summary: The study found that CSBD subjects exhibited higher levels of punishment sensitivity, anxiety, depression, compulsivity, and impulsivity compared to Healthy-Controls. There was a significant interaction between the two groups in reward processing, indicating similarities to substance and behavioral addictions. The absence of group differences and mixed results in cognitive and sensorimotor systems call for further research on the wide spectrum of impairments observed in CSBD.

A meta-analysis of emotional regulation outcomes in psychological interventions for youth with depression and anxiety

Alexander R. Daros et al.

Summary: This meta-analysis found that improvements in emotional regulation skills were associated with reductions in depression and anxiety symptoms in youth psychological treatment. Psychological treatments significantly reduced depression, anxiety, emotion dysregulation, and disengagement emotion regulation, while also increasing engagement emotion regulation. Various factors such as longer treatment duration, group formats, and cognitive-behavioral orientations were positively associated with improved emotional regulation skills and reduced symptoms.

The research found a direct relationship between physical abuse and anxious-ambivalent/anxious-avoidant attachment styles, and sexual abuse predicted later commission of sexual crimes.

Hypoprolactinemia and hyperprolactinemia in male schizophrenia patients treated with aripiprazole and risperidone and their relationships with testosterone levels

Minami Tasaki et al.

Summary: Research indicates that risperidone increases prolactin levels, while aripiprazole decreases prolactin levels. Male schizophrenia patients receiving risperidone or paliperidone commonly experience hyperprolactinemia, while those receiving aripiprazole often have hypoprolactinemia. Testosterone concentrations are associated with elevated prolactin levels in patients treated with risperidone or paliperidone.

Gender-Specific Risk Factors for Psychopathology and Reduced Functioning in a Post-9/11 Veteran Sample

Arielle A. J. Scoglio et al.

Summary: The study found that female combat veterans are more likely to report a history of sexual trauma, while male veterans are more likely to have issues with gambling, impulsivity, and hypersexuality. Both male and female veterans experience higher rates of mental health problems compared to the general population as they transition back into civilian life. Gender-related differences, such as sexual trauma, hypersexuality, and impulsivity, warrant further investigation to understand their potential impact on veteran reintegration and treatment.
