Exploring the role of gut microbiota in host feeding behavior among breeds in swine

Yuqing He et al.

Summary: This study explores the influence of gut microbiota on feeding behavior traits and identifies specific microbes associated with these traits in three commercial swine breeds at different growth stages. The results indicate that the gut microbial composition explains a small to moderate proportion of the variability in feeding behavior. Several archaea and bacteria are found to be significantly correlated with feeding behavior measures. These findings highlight the importance of the gut microbiome in interacting with host feeding behavior and provide insights into swine microbial studies.

Microbiability of meat quality and carcass composition traits in swine

Piush Khanal et al.

Summary: The impact of gut microbiome composition on meat quality and carcass composition traits of pigs varied over different production stages, with a more prominent contribution observed for carcass composition traits. Microbiability estimates were greater for carcass composition traits than meat quality traits, showing high microbial correlations among traits related to fat deposition. Better understanding of microbial composition could aid the improvement of complex traits in swine, particularly carcass composition traits.

Microbial composition differs between production systems and is associated with growth performance and carcass quality in pigs

Christian Maltecca et al.

Summary: This study identified significant differences in fecal microbial composition between selection nucleus and commercial swine populations at different time points. The presence of specific microbial OTUs, such as Lactobacillus and Peptococcus, were associated with growth and carcass traits in both populations. The findings suggest potential value in incorporating microbial composition into the selection process for improved pork production efficiency.
