In situ measurements of intracellular thermal conductivity using heater-thermometer hybrid diamond nanosensors

Shingo Sotoma et al.

Summary: By utilizing a nanoheater/nanothermometer hybrid, intracellular thermal conductivities of HeLa and MCF-7 cells were measured, showing values significantly smaller than that of water. Bayesian analysis of the data indicated variations in thermal conductivity within a cell, suggesting the potential for cells to use heat flux for short-distance thermal signaling.

CAROTID BODY CHEMORECEPTORS: PHYSIOLOGY, PATHOLOGY, AND IMPLICATIONS FOR HEALTH AND DISEASE

Rodrigo Iturriaga et al.

Summary: This review discusses the role of the carotid body in maintaining homeostasis through reflex ventilatory, cardiovascular, and humoral responses. It also examines the transduction mechanisms, synaptic mechanisms, and integrated reflex responses to CB activation in different physiological, pathological, or environmental challenges. The contribution of enhanced CB chemosensory discharge to autonomic and cardiorespiratory pathophysiology in various diseases is also highlighted.
