Sleeve Gastrectomy Ameliorates Diabetes-Induced Cardiac Hypertrophy Correlates With the MAPK Signaling Pathway

Qian Xu et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that bariatric surgery can ameliorate diabetes-induced cardiac hypertrophy by inhibiting the MAPK signaling pathway and upregulating DUSP6.

GLP-1-Induced AMPK Activation Inhibits PARP-1 and Promotes LXR-Mediated ABCA1 Expression to Protect Pancreatic β-Cells Against Cholesterol-Induced Toxicity Through Cholesterol Efflux

Rao Li et al.

Summary: Type 2 diabetes is a complex chronic disease characterized by insulin resistance and beta-cell dysfunction. Bariatric surgeries like RYGB and LSG have become critical in treating obesity and T2DM, with GLP-1 playing a key role in remission of T2DM. GLP-1 inhibits PARP-1 to protect islet beta cell function against cholesterol-induced toxicity by enhancing cholesterol efflux, with AMPK and LXR-mediated ABCA1 expression involved in its protective effects.

FGF1ΔHBS prevents diabetic cardiomyopathy by maintaining mitochondrial homeostasis and reducing oxidative stress via AMPK/Nur77 suppression

Dezhong Wang et al.

Summary: Research has shown that FGF1 levels are decreased in DCM patients and positively correlated with fraction shortening, potentially making it a therapeutic target. Treatment with FGF1 variant FGF1( increment HBS) can prevent diabetes-induced cardiac injury and remodeling through effects on anti-oxidative gene expression and Nur77 levels. FGF1( increment HBS) exerts its beneficial effects by reducing mitochondrial fragmentation, ROS generation, and cytochrome c leakage, as well as enhancing mitochondrial respiration and beta-oxidation, all in an AMPK/Nur77-dependent manner.
