Odorants of Capsicum spp. Dried Fruits as Candidate Attractants for Lasioderma serricorne F. (Coleoptera: Anobiidae)

Salvatore Guarino et al.

Summary: The cigarette beetle, an important pest of stored products, can be monitored using pheromone traps with chili fruit powder as a synergistic attractant. The study found that volatile organic compounds from Capsicum annuum and C. frutescens attract L. serricorne, while those from C. chinense do not. Polar compounds play a primary role in attraction, with alpha-ionone and beta-ionone potentially serving as attractants in monitoring traps.

Coordinative mediation of the response to alarm pheromones by three odorant binding proteins in the green peach aphid Myzus persicae

Qian Wang et al.

Summary: The study showed that the simultaneous knockdown of MperOBP3/7/9 expression significantly reduced the electrophysiological response and the repellent behaviours of green peach aphids to (E)-β-farnesene. Competitive binding assays revealed that the mixture of MperOBP3, MperOBP7, MperOBP9, and MperOBP3/7/9 exhibited a stronger binding affinity for (E)-β-farnesene than for other compounds. This interaction between OBPs may facilitate the delivery of (E)-β-farnesene during insect odorant signal transduction, mediating the response of green peach aphids to the alarm pheromone.
