Drug-Induced Nephrotoxicity Assessment in 3D Cellular Models

Pengfei Yu et al.

Summary: The kidneys are frequently affected by adverse effects and toxicity caused by foreign compounds and drugs. Drug-induced nephrotoxicity is a significant cause of serious adverse reactions in current drug treatments. The mechanisms of drug-induced nephrotoxicity are multifaceted, and current in vitro cell models do not fully replicate in vivo nephrotoxicity. The kidney microenvironment plays a crucial role in predicting toxic reactions.

The Role of mTOR Signaling as a Therapeutic Target in Cancer

Nadezhda V. Popova et al.

Summary: This review summarizes the current information on the role of phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase (PI3K)/AKT/mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling in cancer as a potential target for new therapy options. The mTOR and PI3K/AKT/mTORC1 (mTOR complex 1) signaling pathways are critical for regulating fundamental cell processes, and their deregulation is implicated in cancer, metabolic dysregulation, and aging. The review also discusses recent data on the structure and function of the mTOR pathway, mechanisms of deregulation in human cancers, and the use of PI3K/AKT/mTOR inhibitors in clinical studies for cancer treatment, including issues of resistance and adverse effects.

Endoglin in the Spotlight to Treat Cancer

Teresa Gonzalez Munoz et al.

Summary: Endoglin has been identified as a potential disease biomarker and therapeutic target, playing various roles in physiological and pathological processes. It acts as a co-receptor in the TGF beta pathway and can also be released in soluble form to affect cell signaling. In cancer, endoglin may contribute to both oncogenic and non-oncogenic phenotypes, opening up possibilities for targeted therapies within the tumor microenvironment.

Resveratrol significantly improves cell survival in comparison to dexrazoxane and carvedilol in a h9c2 model of doxorubicin induced cardiotoxicity

David S. Monahan et al.

Summary: Cancer causes 18.1 million deaths per year globally, with anti-cancer therapies often leading to severe side effects. Dexrazoxane is currently the only approved treatment for preventing anthracycline-induced cardiotoxicity, but resveratrol may be more effective in prevention. Further research is needed to understand the mechanisms and potential of resveratrol in clinical settings.

Resveratrol-Based Nanoformulations as an Emerging Therapeutic Strategy for Cancer

Javad Sharifi-Rad et al.

Summary: Resveratrol, a polyphenolic stilbene derivative found in grapes and red wine, has shown potential in cancer therapy with its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antiaging abilities. Nanoformulations of resveratrol could improve its efficiency in cancer treatment, making it a promising strategy.
