Mechanism of Caspase-1 Inhibition by Four Anti-inflammatory Drugs Used in COVID-19 Treatment

Francesco Caruso et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the inhibition of caspase-1 by anti-inflammatory drugs in COVID-19 treatment and investigated their antioxidant activities. The results suggest that these drugs alleviate excessive cytokine production by inhibiting caspase-1 and scavenging superoxide radicals. The mechanism involves the binding of the drugs to the active site of caspase-1, forming a covalent bond with a carbonyl group.

Screening of Antioxidative Properties and Inhibition of Inflammation-Linked Enzymes by Aqueous and Ethanolic Extracts of Plants Traditionally Used in Wound Healing in Poland

Marta Mainka et al.

Summary: The study aimed to determine the antioxidant activity of plant extracts traditionally used in Poland to treat inflammatory skin diseases. The extracts showed high free radical scavenging abilities but had a lower impact on enzyme activity. The main components of the extracts were flavonoids and caffeoylquinic acids.

The Role of Antioxidants on Wound Healing: A Review of the Current Evidence

Ines Maria Comino-Sanz et al.

Summary: This review identifies seven compounds with antioxidant activity and summarizes the effects of these antioxidant compounds on the healing process in 46 studies. Curcumin, NAC, quercetin, and chitosan are the antioxidant compounds that have shown some initial evidence of efficacy, but more research in human subjects is needed.

Potential Effects of Phenolic Compounds That Can Be Found in Olive Oil on Wound Healing

Lucia Melguizo-Rodriguez et al.

Summary: Polyphenolic compounds, present in extra virgin olive oil, have potential benefits for wound treatment through their anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial properties, as well as their ability to stimulate angiogenesis and wound re-epithelialization. Further human studies are needed to verify these findings.

Therapeutic Potential of Luteolin on Impaired Wound Healing in Streptozotocin-Induced Rats

Li-You Chen et al.

Summary: Luteolin has been shown to improve delayed and impaired healing of skin wounds in STZ-induced diabetic rats by attenuating blood glucose levels, inhibiting inflammation, and increasing antioxidant enzyme activity. This effect is mediated by the inactivation of NF-kappa B and upregulation of Nrf2, leading to enhanced wound restoration through reduced inflammatory factors and improved angiogenesis and neuronal regeneration.
