White Matter Microstructural Abnormalities in the Broca's-Wernicke's-Putamen Hoffman Hallucination Circuit and Auditory Transcallosal Fibers in First-Episode Psychosis With Auditory Hallucinations

Dean F. Salisbury et al.

Summary: Functional connectivity abnormalities between Broca's and Wernicke's areas and the putamen revealed by fMRI are related to auditory hallucinations (AH). Reduced white matter structural integrity in left arcuate fasciculus, likely related to AH, was found in long-term schizophrenia. In first-episode psychosis, AH are more robustly associated with left hemisphere arcuate fasciculus and interhemispheric auditory fibers microstructural deficits.

Functional Contributions of the Arcuate Fasciculus to Language Processing

Maria Ivanova et al.

Summary: Current evidence strongly supports the critical role of the arcuate fasciculus (AF) in language processing, with specific segments contributing to different language abilities. The posterior segment of the AF is particularly crucial for supporting residual language abilities, highlighting its important contributions beyond known cortical language areas.

Summary: Cortical thickness was found to be thinner in patients with first-episode psychosis, especially those with poor functional outcomes. No correlations were found between cortical thickness measurements and clinical variables.
