Activity, selectivity, and stability of earth-abundant CuO/Cu2O/Cu0-based photocatalysts toward CO2 reduction

Shahzad Ali et al.

Summary: Cu-based photocatalysts are widely used for CO2 reduction due to their unique features, but the poor resistance of Cu to oxidation limits their practical applications. Various approaches have been proposed to enhance their photocatalytic performance and stability, including the use of co-catalysts, heterostructures, and atomically dispersed Cu photocatalysts, which have gained significant attention for their good stability and oxidation state control for different CO2 reduction reaction steps.

A dual-cathode study on Ag-Cu sequential CO2 electroreduction towards hydrocarbons

Danqing Shu et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates increased hydrocarbon yield and lower onset potential for C2H4 using an Ag-Cu dual-cathode CO2RR device. It also suggests that splitting the CO2RR process into two separate steps is a feasible method to improve overall efficiency and rate of advanced products. A single-pass dual-gas diffusion cathode reactor is proposed for optimization of the dual-cathode cell.

Ag Nanowires/C as a Selective and Efficient Catalyst for CO2 Electroreduction

Li Zeng et al.

Summary: In this research, silver nanowires anchored on carbon support were prepared as an excellent electrocatalyst with high selectivity for the reduction of CO2 to CO, achieving a Faradic efficiency of approximately 100%. The enhanced catalytic performance can be attributed to the dense active sites exposed on the high specific surface area of the silver nanowires and their uniform dispersion on the carbon support. This study indicates that silver nanowires supported on carbon have the potential to be promising catalysts in CO2 electroreduction.

Unstable Cathode Potential in Alkaline Flow Cells for CO2 Electroreduction Driven by Gas Evolution

Kevin Krause et al.

Summary: By studying the real-time correlation between gas content in the electrolyte layer and cathode potential in flow cells, it has been found that enhancing gas removal from the electrolyte layer stabilizes cell performance and enables high current density operation. Increasing the frequency of gas removal helps stabilize current density operation and reduce cathode overpotential.

Summary: Electrocatalytic CO2 reduction reaction is a promising strategy for producing multi carbon compounds. A systematic study on the significance of variables in CO2RR to C2+ products is still lacking. The effect of roughness factor, chemical composition, and surface morphology of CuxZny electrocatalysts on product distribution during CO2RR was investigated in this study, showing that nanocubes of Cu and CuxZny exhibited the highest FE to C2+ products.

Efficiency and selectivity of CO2 reduction to CO on gold gas diffusion electrodes in acidic media

Mariana C. O. Monteiro et al.

Summary: Large scale CO2 electrolysis to produce CO has traditionally been done in neutral and alkaline media, but recent research shows that it can also be achieved in acidic media with higher efficiency. Operating at current densities up to 200 mA cm(-2), CO faradaic efficiencies between 80-90% were obtained in sulfate electrolyte, representing a step towards the application of acidic electrolyzers for CO2 electroreduction.
