L-proline-catalyzed Knoevenagel reaction promoted by choline chloride-based deep eutectic solvents

Yun Wang et al.

Summary: Knoevenagel condensation of acetylacetone and aromatic aldehyde in deep eutectic solvents containing L-proline as catalyst was successfully achieved with high yields up to 96.6%. The remarkable features observed in deep eutectic solvents include mild reaction conditions, enhanced rates, improved yields, recyclability of the solvents containing L-proline, and different reactivity compared to standard organic solvents.

Antischistosomal properties of aurone derivatives against juvenile and adult worms of Schistosoma mansoni

Vinicius R. D. Pereira et al.

Summary: Aurone derivatives have shown potential as effective agents against Schistosoma mansoni, displaying concentration-dependent tegumental damage on parasites with no cytotoxic or haemolytic effects on mammalian cells. In a mouse model of schistosomiasis, the aurones demonstrated significant reductions in worm burden and egg production, particularly showing efficacy against juvenile parasites, suggesting their potential as lead compounds for novel antischistosomal drugs.

Exploring the 2′-Hydroxy-Chalcone Framework for the Development of Dual Antioxidant and Soybean Lipoxygenase Inhibitory Agents

Ioanna Kostopoulou et al.

Summary: The study revealed that chalcone 4b with two hydroxyl substituents on ring B showed the best combined activity, while chalcone 3c with a methoxymethylene substituent on ring A and three methoxy groups on ring B exhibited the most promising LOX inhibitory activity. In silico techniques were used to explore the binding characteristics of the most active compound 3c and its analogue 3b to LOX, showing distinct H-bond interaction patterns for each compound.

Structure-property-performance relationships of lactic acid-based deep eutectic solvents with different hydrogen bond acceptors for corn stover pretreatment

Xinquan Liang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the pretreatment of corn stover using lactic acid-based deep eutectic solvents with varying hydrogen bond acceptor structures. The results showed that DESs with short alkyl chain HBAs were more effective in removing lignin and xylan and promoting enzymatic digestion. Additionally, the hydrogen bond acidity of the DESs was found to have a strong positive relationship with pretreatment efficacy, providing insights into the design and selection of DESs for lignocellulose pretreatment.
