Continuous-Flow Sunlight-Powered CO2 Methanation Catalyzed by γ-Al2O3-Supported Plasmonic Ru Nanorods

Jelle Rohlfs et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated the plasmonic CO2 methanation using gamma-Al2O3-supported Ru nanorods under continuous-flow conditions powered by concentrated sunlight. The conversion of CO2 to CH4 showed high selectivity and stable production rate, mainly promoted by photothermal heating. The findings suggest the potential of utilizing solar energy for CO2 conversion and methane production.

Renewable natural gas as climate-neutral energy carrier?

Bob van der Zwaan et al.

Summary: Methanation technology has the potential to be an alternative to natural gas, but currently it is still costly to implement. Innovative methanation technology may be able to compete with conventional methods sometime between 2032 and 2039, but cost of hydrogen will remain a dominant factor in the levelized cost of methane until at least the middle of the century. A carbon tax of at least 270/tCO2 may be necessary for methanation to compete with natural gas by 2050.

Functional and Material Properties in Nanocatalyst Design: A Data Handling and Sharing Problem

Daniel Lach et al.

Summary: This study discussed the data handling and sharing issues in catalyst design, pointing out that material design requires real property measurements as a basis, while catalyst design often involves a lack or scarcity of functional properties.

Surface plasmon resonance-induced visible light photocatalytic TiO2 modified with AuNPs for the quantification of hydroquinone

Camila D. Mendonca et al.

Summary: The impregnation of size-controlled gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) on an anatase TiO2 structure (AuNPs@TiO2) was studied for the photoelectrochemical detection of hydroquinone (HQ) under visible light illumination integrated into a flow injection analysis (FIA) setup. The presence of AuNPs improved the photoelectrocatalytic activity of TiO2 and prevented charge recombination, with reactive oxygen species (ROS) generated during visible light illumination participating in the oxidation process of HQ. The study illustrated that impregnation of AuNPs in TiO2 allows sensitive detection of phenolic substances under green laser illumination using a photoelectrochemical flow system.
