An integrated meta-analysis of peripheral blood metabolites and biological functions in major depressive disorder

Juncai Pu et al.

Summary: Our study identified 23 differentially expressed metabolites in peripheral blood between MDD patients and controls. MDD patients showed higher levels of certain substances such as asymmetric dimethylarginine, tyramine, and 2-hydroxybutyric acid, and lower levels of others such as l-acetylcarnitine and l-methionine. l-tryptophan and kynurenic acid were consistently downregulated in MDD patients. The results suggest that metabolic changes in peripheral blood, particularly decreased levels of l-tryptophan and kynurenic acid, are associated with MDD.

The coupling of RACK1 with the beta isoform of the glucocorticoid receptor promotes resilience to chronic stress exposure

Paola Brivio et al.

Summary: The study focused on the role of the Gr beta-RACK1-Bdnf signaling pathway in susceptibility to chronic stress. Findings showed that activation of this pathway in the ventral hippocampus can increase resilience to chronic stress, offering new targets for treating stress-related disorders.

Stress Modifies the Expression of Glucocorticoid-Responsive Genes by Acting at Epigenetic Levels in the Rat Prefrontal Cortex: Modulatory Activity of Lurasidone

Paola Brivio et al.

Summary: Epigenetics plays a crucial role in how environmental factors can affect brain function and contribute to central nervous system disorders. Chronic stress was found to mainly impact the expression and methylation of the Gadd45 beta gene, with lurasidone helping to normalize these alterations. MiRNA involvement in gene expression changes was moderate under the experimental conditions.
