The relationship between FDI, CO2 emissions, and energy consumption in Asia-Pacific economic cooperation countries

Esra Balli et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the relationship between CO2 emissions, energy consumption, economic growth, and foreign direct investment in APEC countries. The results show that an increase in FDI inflows negatively affects air quality, supporting the pollution haven hypothesis. Additionally, the increase in energy consumption has a positive impact on CO2 emissions. The impact of GDP on CO2 emissions varies by country.

Reduction of CO2 emissions: The role of renewable energy, technological innovation and export quality

Mohammad Mafizur Rahman et al.

Summary: In the 22 well-developed countries, CO2 emissions have been reducing despite positive economic growth. Renewable energy and export quality are found to contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions. Positive stimuli of technological innovation decrease CO2 emissions, while the negative shocks or counter incentives increase CO2 emissions. Bidirectional causality is found between renewable energy and CO2 emissions, technological innovation and CO2 emissions, GDP and renewable energy, and renewable energy and technological innovation.

Does information and communication technology and financial development lead to environmental sustainability in India? An empirical insight

Malayaranjan Sahoo et al.

Summary: The research found that electricity consumption has a positive impact on CO2 emissions in India, while Information Communication Technology (ICT) and financial development contribute positively to environmental sustainability. The results indicate the presence of the Environmental Kuznets Curve in India, suggesting that the government should focus more on investing in renewable energy to curb environmental degradation.

Moderating the effect of globalization on financial development, energy consumption, human capital, and carbon emissions: evidence from G20 countries

Muhammad Sheraz et al.

Summary: The study found that financial development and human capital decrease carbon emissions, while GDP and energy consumption increase carbon emissions. Globalization moderates the impact of financial development and human capital on carbon emissions, as well as the impact of energy consumption and GDP. This research provides insights for policymakers to formulate country-based policies for environmental protection and sustainable economic goals.

Does green investment, financial development and natural resources rent limit carbon emissions? A provincial panel analysis of China

Yijuan Shen et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of natural resources rent, green investment, financial development, and energy consumption on carbon emissions in China. Results show that energy consumption and financial development have a positive impact on carbon emissions, while green investment is negatively correlated and natural resources rent is positively associated with carbon emissions. Recommendations include strengthening natural resource tax laws and promoting green investment and environmental policies to control carbon emissions.

Are Energy Consumption, Population Density and Exports Causing Environmental Damage in China? Autoregressive Distributed Lag and Vector Error Correction Model Approaches

Mohammad Mafizur Rahman et al.

Summary: The study finds that in China, energy consumption and economic growth are the main reasons for CO2 emissions, while exports reduce CO2 emissions in the long run. Additionally, there is a short-run unidirectional Granger causality from economic growth to energy consumption, CO2 emissions, and exports.

Summary: This paper explores the impacts of economic growth, energy use, exports and human capital on the environmental quality of newly industrialised countries (NICs) over the period of 1979-2017. The study found in the long run, economic growth and human capital improved environmental quality, while energy consumption and exports deteriorated it. Energy consumption was found to have the highest impact on the environment.

Clean energy, population density, urbanization and environmental pollution nexus: Evidence from Bangladesh

Mohammad Mafizur Rahman et al.

Summary: This study focuses on environmental issues in Bangladesh and finds that the use of clean energy has improved environmental quality, but population density, urbanization, and economic growth are detrimental to the environment. It is recommended to increase the use of clean energy to reduce environmental pollution.

Income and energy consumption in Asia-Pacific countries - A panel cointegration analysis enhanced with common factors

Raymond Li et al.

Summary: This research re-examines the relationship between energy consumption and income in a panel of Asian economies from 1971 to 2018, showing evidence of convergence in energy intensity and a causal relationship running from income to energy consumption. The study employs panel data methodologies and finds that excluding unobserved common factors leads to a doubling of long-run income elasticity estimates for the panel. The results align with the seminal paper by Kraft and Kraft (1978).

Exploring the driving factors of economic growth in the world's largest economies

Mohammad Mafizur Rahman et al.

Summary: The study identifies positive and significant impacts of energy use, trade, capital, labor, human capital development, and foreign direct investment on economic growth in the long run. In the short run, energy use, trade, and capital also have positive and significant effects, while human capital has a negative effect on economic growth. Additionally, the study finds bidirectional causal relationships between economic growth and trade, capital, labor, and human capital, as well as a unidirectional causal link from economic growth to energy use and foreign direct investment.
