Travel distance and land use: a generalized Box-Cox model with conditional spatial lag dependence

Jason Hawkins et al.

Summary: This study focuses on disentangling individual contributions to travel distance using various econometric techniques, and tests the joint effects of functional form and spatial autocorrelation on model fit. Results from a large-scale travel survey in the Greater Toronto Area refute previous findings regarding the correlation between travel distance and density, validating model results using bootstrapped sampling and local indicators of spatial association.

Revealing spatiotemporal travel demand and community structure characteristics with taxi trip data: A case study of New York City

Chen Xie et al.

Summary: This study explores the spatiotemporal traffic demand characteristics in New York City using spatial statistics and graph-based methods. Findings reveal that people primarily travel for commuting on weekdays and entertainment on weekends, with different hotspots showing diverse traffic demand patterns at different times. Through complex network theory, it is discovered that community formation is closely related to traffic demand, but key taxi zones may not always have strong connections with their respective communities.

Spatiotemporally heterogeneous willingness to ridesplitting and its relationship with the built environment: A case study in Chengdu, China

Guan Huang et al.

Summary: This study used real-world DiDi Chuxing dataset in Chengdu, China to estimate ridesplitting willingness rates in different areas at different times of the day. Results revealed a significant spatiotemporal pattern in ridesplitting willingness rates between urban centre and periphery, influenced by various factors.
