A total of 28 plant species were reported to be used for treating a number of otorhinolaryngologic and ophthalmic ailments. The most significant plant species included Piper nigrum L., Ocimum sanctum L., and Zingiber officinale Roscoe.

Opuntia ficus-indica (prickly pear) is a plant rich in dietary fiber, vitamins, and bioactive compounds with interesting biological activities, making it a potential ingredient for new food products and applications in health promotion and cosmetic/beauty products.

A Review of Rhazya stricta Decne Phytochemistry, Bioactivities, Pharmacological Activities, Toxicity, and Folkloric Medicinal Uses

Summary: Rhazya stricta, a local medicinal plant, has been used in different cultures for treating various medical disorders. Phytochemical studies revealed alkaloidal, fatty acid, flavonoid, and terpenoid compounds in R. stricta extract. Pharmacological and biological activities such as antimicrobial, antioxidant, larvicidal, and phytoremediation have been identified in the extract, while toxic, genotoxic, and mutagenic properties were also observed. Further research is needed to explore the potential medical, veterinary, and ecological uses of the novel phytochemical compounds present in R. stricta.

Bioactive compounds from Euphorbia schimperiana with cytotoxic and antibacterial activities

Summary: Cytotoxicity and antibacterial activities of Euphorbia schimperiana total extract, fractions, and isolated secondary metabolites were investigated. The results showed that ethyl acetate and n-butanol fractions had more valuable results against the tested pathogenic bacteria than total extract and n-hexane fraction. The major components of n-hexane were determined by GCMS analysis and 14 compounds were tentatively identified.
