Effects of Crystal Morphology on the Hot-Carrier Dynamics in Mixed-Cation Hybrid Lead Halide Perovskites

Daniele Catone et al.

Summary: Ultrafast pump-probe spectroscopies are crucial for investigating charge carriers dynamics in perovskite materials, providing valuable information on excited carriers' dynamics and aiding in the development of new devices with tailored photovoltaic properties. Studies on mixed-cation hybrid lead halide perovskite samples showed that small crystals embedded in the mesoporous layer can retain carrier temperature for a longer period compared to large crystals, highlighting the importance of crystal dimensions and morphology in hot-carrier dynamics. The high sensitivity of time-resolved spectroscopies in discerning the transient response due to variations in crystal morphology within the same sample can be applied to optimize stability and efficiency in perovskite-based devices for solar cell applications.

Laser Processing Optimization for Large-Area Perovskite Solar Modules

Stefano Razza et al.

Summary: The industrial exploitation of perovskite solar cell technology is hindered by the lack of repeatable and high-throughput fabrication processes for large-area modules. Optimizing laser ablation steps for shaping module layout in series connected sub-cells is crucial for ensuring high-performance repeatability over a large number of modules.

Transition metal carbides (MXenes) for efficient NiO-based inverted perovskite solar cells

D. Saranin et al.

Summary: This work demonstrates the beneficial role of MXene doping in NiO-based inverted perovskite solar cells, improving charge extraction and collection efficiency to achieve superior performance. The ability to finely tune MXene work function during chemical synthesis and modify optoelectronic properties of PSC layers as dopant opens up countless possibilities for engineering inverted PSC structures.

Mixed Cation Halide Perovskite under Environmental and Physical Stress

Rosanna Larciprete et al.

Summary: Despite the ideal performance demonstrated by mixed perovskite materials as active layers in photovoltaic devices, their poor stability when exposed to prolonged atmosphere, light, or moderate temperature remains a hindrance in real-life applications. This study found that perovskite thin films aged in the dark showed deviations from nominal composition without evident signs of oxidation, while exposure to light led to material deterioration and perturbed chemical composition due to reactions with surface contaminants. The addition of 2D MXene flakes did not negatively impact perovskite stability, and may even have a mild stabilizing effect on fresh samples.
