Photosensitizer Nanodot Eliciting Immunogenicity for Photo-Immunologic Therapy of Postoperative Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus Infection and Secondary Recurrence

Haozheng Tang et al.

Summary: In this study, an ultra-micro photosensitizer, AgB nanodots, were used to efficiently clear multidrug-resistant bacteria MRSA through photothermal therapy, photodynamic therapy, and Ag+ ion sterilization. The AgB nanodots were found to enhance host immunogenicity and establish immunological memory in a murine model, providing a novel platform for the effective treatment of postoperative infection and a systematic immunotherapeutic strategy to combat persistent infections, thereby reducing the incidence of recurrence.

Nanocatalytic Theranostics with Glutathione Depletion and Enhanced Reactive Oxygen Species Generation for Efficient Cancer Therapy

Lian-Hua Fu et al.

Summary: Chemodynamic therapy (CDT) is a promising method for killing cancer cells by converting intracellular hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) into highly toxic hydroxyl radicals ((OH)-O-center dot). An intelligent nanocatalytic theranostics, PGC-DOX, was developed to address the limitations of endogenous H2O2 and high GSH levels in tumor cells, leading to efficient cancer therapy. The system combines H2O2 self-supply, GSH-elimination, and DOX-induced chemotherapy to effectively inhibit tumor growth with minimal side effects in vivo.

Photothermy-strengthened photocatalytic activity of polydopamine-modified metal-organic frameworks for rapid therapy of bacteria-infected wounds

Donglin Han et al.

Summary: In this study, a metal-organic framework (MOF) was modified using polydopamine (PDA) to develop MOFPDA as a photoresponsive bacteria-killing agent under 660 nm light irradiation. The modification with PDA not only increased heat production, but also enhanced the production of O-1(2), resulting in improved photocatalytic performance. The enhanced hyperthermia induced by PDA modification accelerated charge transfer, strengthening the photocatalytic performance of MOF-PDA.

Degradation of antibiotics in aqueous media using manganese nanocatalyst-activated peroxymonosulfate

Aimal Khan et al.

Summary: epsilon-MnO2 efficiently activates peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for the degradation of emerging pollutants, generating sulfate, hydroxyl, superoxide, and singlet oxygen radicals. The system is effective in a wide pH range and the degradation of pollutants is not significantly influenced by the presence of inorganic anions or natural organic matter. The proposed activation pathway involves inner-sphere interactions and electron transfer, leading to the generation of reactive oxygen species.
