Non-decoupling new particles

Ian Banta et al.

Summary: This study introduces a new class of beyond the Standard Model states called Loryons, which are characterized by their non-decoupling nature. The study focuses on the parameter space and constraints of Loryons, showing that most fermionic candidates are ruled out while the scalar Loryon parameter space remains open for discovery.

Thermal WIMPs and the scale of new physics: global fits of Dirac dark matter effective field theories

Peter Athron et al.

Summary: In this study, a wide class of WIMP dark matter models were assessed in light of the latest experimental results using the global fitting framework GAMBIT. The global analysis of effective field theory operators revealed challenges in satisfying all constraints simultaneously while maintaining EFT validity at LHC energies. However, large regions of viable parameter space were found where the EFT is valid and the relic density can be reproduced, suggesting that WIMPs can still account for the DM of the universe while being consistent with the latest data.

Fermionic singlet dark matter in one-loop solutions to the RK anomaly: a systematic study

Mathias Becker et al.

Summary: The study focuses on dark matter phenomenology in Standard Model extensions, specifically in the context of fermionic singlet dark matter coupling to leptons, quarks, or both, to explain the reported anomaly in the R-K observable. Large couplings between new particle content and the second lepton generation are used to address the R-K anomaly, which leads to a decrease in dark matter relic density. Direct detection experiments impose stringent bounds, even when the dark matter candidate only contributes a small fraction of the observed dark matter energy density.

On the W&Y interpretation of high-energy Drell-Yan measurements

Riccardo Torre et al.

Summary: This paper provides theoretical predictions of high-energy neutral and charged Drell-Yan differential cross-section measurements, including new physics effects at the Next-to-Leading order in QCD. The predictions are obtained from SM Monte Carlo simulations through analytic reweighting, enabling the exploration of all relevant interactions. Projections for the sensitivity of LHC and HL-LHC measurements are presented, along with quantification of the impact of several sources of uncertainties.

Unitarity violation and the geometry of Higgs EFTs

Timothy Cohen et al.

Summary: This study derives the scale of unitarity violation from the geometry of Effective Field Theory extensions of the Standard Model Higgs sector, revealing the behavior of high-energy amplitudes. It is found that theories described by HEFT at low energies but not by SMEFT exhibit unitarity violation, limiting the radius of convergence of geometric invariants.

Enrico Bertuzzo et al.

Summary: Investigated a dark sector with a pair of light non-degenerate scalar particles coupled to the visible sector through heavier mediators. The heaviest dark state is long-lived, offering new testable signals through its decays. Future experiments can test large portions of the currently unexplored parameter space, complementing future High-Luminosity LHC searches.

Is SMEFT enough?

Timothy Cohen et al.

Summary: There are two canonical approaches to treating the Standard Model as an Effective Field Theory (EFT): SMEFT and HEFT. HEFT encompasses SMEFT and concrete criteria can distinguish between the two. Perturbative new physics must be matched onto HEFT in certain scenarios.

Effective field theory versus UV-complete model: vector boson scattering as a case study

Jannis Lang et al.

Summary: Effective field theories are used to parameterize effects of beyond standard model physics in vector boson scattering, but their validity range may be limited at high energy. By studying UV-complete toy models, it is found that dimension-eight operators are crucial for an adequate description of models, but significant effects are only seen outside the validity range of EFT.

SMEFT analysis of vector boson scattering and diboson data from the LHC Run II

Jacob J. Ethier et al.

Summary: In this study, a systematic interpretation of vector boson scattering (VBS) and diboson measurements from the LHC was presented within the framework of the dimension-six standard model effective field theory (SMEFT). The VBS measurements were found to provide complementary information on several relevant operators for the description of the electroweak sector compared to the diboson measurements. Additionally, the ultimate EFT reach of VBS measurements was quantified through dedicated projections for the high luminosity LHC, motivating the integration of VBS processes in future global SMEFT interpretations of particle physics data.

Higgs coupling measurements and the scale of new physics

Fayez Abu-Ajamieh et al.

Summary: The primary goal is to measure the Higgs couplings to SM particles, with any observed deviations pointing to new physics that can be explored at future colliders. The approach is model-independent, assuming no light degrees of freedom below the scale of new physics and allowing arbitrary values for the couplings. If the scale of new physics is above the TeV scale, the deviations can be described by the leading higher-dimension gauge invariant operator in the SM effective field theory.

High-energy EFT probes with fully differential Drell-Yan measurements

Giuliano Panico et al.

Summary: The study investigates the potential of fully-differential measurements of high-energy dilepton cross-sections at the LHC to probe heavy new physics encapsulated in dimension-6 interaction operators. Results show a considerable sensitivity improvement relative to single-differential measurements due to the possibility of probing more directions in the seven-dimensional parameter space at the interference level. The reduction of parton distribution function uncertainties in the fully-differential fit is also found to play a significant role.

Top-philic heavy resonances in four-top final states and their EFT interpretation

Summary: The rare occurrence of four top-quark final states at the LHC offers a unique window into top-quark properties, but current effective theory interpretations may not apply. By studying simplified models with heavy resonances, researchers have established new limits for future experiments and proposed a novel recasting strategy based on high transverse momentum top-quark production.
