On the 3d compactifications of 5d SCFTs associated with SU(N+1) gauge theories

Holographic description of SCFT5 compactifications

Summary: We present three infinite families of supersymmetric Type IIB backgrounds with AdS(4), AdS(3) and AdS(2) factors, which are dual to SCFTs in 3, 2 and 1 space-time dimensions respectively. These backgrounds emerge at low energies through a twisted compactification of five-dimensional N = 1 SCFTs on hyperbolic spaces. The holographic flows across dimensions are explicitly computed. We also discuss a family of SUSY breaking backgrounds corresponding to a QCD-like quiver with massive (bi)fundamental matter, and compute some field theoretical observables for these theories at the fixed points and along the flow.

Instantons, symmetries and anomalies in five dimensions

Summary: This study reveals a finite-order mixed 't Hooft anomaly in five-dimensional non-abelian gauge theories, as well as an obstruction to coupling the U(1) global symmetry with a classical background gauge field associated with a one-form center symmetry. A similar obstruction is found to occur in gauge theories with fundamental matter. Furthermore, the general dynamical properties of the candidate phases implied by the anomaly are explored.

Summary: By compactifying rank Q E-string theory on genus zero surfaces with various fluxes, interesting models with IR enhancements and duality properties can be constructed, such as the S-confinement duality. Furthermore, the theories discussed in four dimensions exhibit an SU(2)(ISO) symmetry that can naturally be identified with the isometry of the two-sphere.

Compactifying 5d superconformal field theories to 3d

Summary: Building upon recent progress in compactifications of 6d (1, 0) superconformal field theories on Riemann surfaces to 4d N = 1 theories, this study systematically investigates the compactifications of 5d N = 1 SCFTs on Riemann surfaces to 3d N = 2 theories. By examining the compactification of rank 1 Seiberg ENf +1 SCFTs on tori and tubes with flux, various consistency checks are conducted on the resulting 3d theories, including matching IR symmetries and identifying operator spectra predicted by the 5d picture. The methods used in this study, which involve novel elements like Chern-Simons terms and monopole superpotentials, can also be applied to compactify other 5d SCFTs leading to 5d gauge theories.
