Functional analysis of flavanone 3-hydroxylase (F3H) from Dendrobium officinale , which confers abiotic stress tolerance

Can Si et al.

Summary: This study characterized a key flavonoid biosynthesis gene, flavanone 3-hydroxylase (F3H), from Dendrobium officinale and found that it was involved in the biosynthesis of flavonoids. The DoF3H protein showed high homology with F3H proteins from other plant species and its mRNA levels were induced by salt and cold stresses. Heterologous expression of DoF3H in Escherichia coli conferred higher tolerance to salt and cold stresses.

Soil salinization management for sustainable development: A review

Ajay Singh

Summary: Expanding irrigated agriculture is essential to feed the growing global population, but it can lead to soil salinization without proper management, which is a persistent environmental issue. Over 20% of global irrigated areas currently face soil salinization and waterlogging, with potential expansion to over 50% by 2050. Proper management of soil salinization is crucial for achieving Sustainable Development Goals, and comprehensive measures are needed to address this environmental problem.

Contents of tannins of cultivars of sorghum cultivated in Brazil, as determined by four quantification methods

Carmen E. Palacios et al.

Summary: High tannin content in sorghum grains is undesirable for poultry and pig feeding, while moderate levels may have benefits in human diets. This study compared tannin contents in twenty sorghum cultivars in Brazil, and validated four methods of tannin quantification. Results showed wide genetic diversity in tannin contents among sorghum cultivars.

CrUGT87A1, a UDP-sugar glycosyltransferases (UGTs) gene from Carex rigescens, increases salt tolerance by accumulating flavonoids for antioxidation in Arabidopsis thaliana

Kun Zhang et al.

Summary: The research investigated the functional role of UGTs in salt tolerance, specifically focusing on the gene CrUGT87A1 in Carex rigescens. The study found that overexpression of CrUGT87A1 led to increased flavonoid accumulation, promoting antioxidation and enhancing salt tolerance in plants. This knowledge can potentially be used to improve crop breeding for salt tolerance.

Elucidation of the Regulatory Network of Flavonoid Biosynthesis by Profiling the Metabolome and Transcriptome in Tartary Buckwheat

Siyu Hou et al.

Summary: By investigating the flavonoid metabolism in different TB tissues, the pathway of flavonoid synthesis and the related gene regulation network were revealed. The DEGs were mainly enriched in the Phenylpropanoid biosynthesis pathway, with 52 DEGs involved in flavonol synthesis pathway. Weighted gene correlation network analysis unveiled four co-expression network modules correlated with flavonol metabolites.
