Genome-wide analysis of changes in miRNA and target gene expression reveals key roles in heterosis for Chinese cabbage biomass

Peirong Li et al.

Summary: The study characterized heterosis in Chinese cabbage F-1 hybrid and its parental lines, showing marked heterosis in leaf weight and biomass yield. Analysis of small RNA sequencing revealed differentially expressed microRNAs at different growth stages, with majority of miRNA clusters in F-1 hybrid showing lower expression levels compared to mid-parent values. Furthermore, transcriptome analysis demonstrated differential expression of genes related to photosynthesis and chlorophyll synthesis in the F-1 hybrid, resulting in increased photosynthesis capacity and chlorophyll content. These findings provide new insights into the regulation of target genes and miRNA expression patterns in leaf size and heterosis for biomass of B. rapa.

Fine Mapping and Candidate Gene Identification of a White Flower Gene BrWF3 in Chinese Cabbage (Brassica rapa L. ssp. pekinensis)

Shuangjuan Yang et al.

Summary: This study successfully fine-mapped the white flower gene BrWF3 in Chinese cabbage and identified its most likely candidate gene. Functional and sequence analysis revealed that BrWF3 may be involved in the production of xanthophyll esters, impacting chromoplast development. Furthermore, a functional marker TXBH83 was developed for BrWF3, providing valuable information for breeding in Chinese cabbage.

Distinguishing between isomeric neoxanthin and violaxanthin esters in yellow flower petals using liquid chromatography/photodiode array atmospheric pressure chemical ionization mass spectrometry and tandem mass spectrometry

Takehiro Watanabe et al.

Summary: The isomeric violaxanthin/neoxanthin esters in yellow pigments of tomato petals were successfully distinguished using LC/PDA-APCI-MS and MS/MS. This method provided a practical and useful approach for profiling carotenoid esters in yellow petals.
