Evaluation of storage stability of dried cranberry powders based on the moisture sorption isotherms and glass transition temperatures

Izabela Staniszewska et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the storage stability of dried cranberry powders. The moisture sorption isotherms and glass transition temperature were found to accurately describe the storage characteristics of cranberry powders. Storage temperature and drying method did not significantly affect the sorption isotherms of the powders.

Environmental Factors Driving Seed Hydration Status of Soil Seed Banks and the Implications for Post-fire Recruitment

Ryan Tangney et al.

Summary: Changes in fire regimes and management practices due to climate change have led to alterations in the timing, duration, and distribution of vegetation fires. This study explores the hydration dynamics of different seed species and their response to high temperatures associated with fire. The research findings highlight the importance of minimizing seed mortality during fire and maximizing the seed bank response.

Evaluation of storage stability of low moisture whole common beans and their fractions through the use of state diagrams

Clare Kyomugasho et al.

Summary: By examining state diagrams and glass transition temperatures of bean seeds, the storage stability of the seeds can be understood. The Tg value of bean powders increases with dry matter content, indicating higher stability at higher temperatures. Variations in Tg values were observed among substructures of different bean varieties.

Microscopic evidence for pectin changes in hard-to-cook development of common beans during storage

Dongyan Chen et al.

Summary: The study investigated pectin changes during Red haricot bean storage under high temperature and high humidity conditions to understand the hard-to-cook (HTC) development. It was found that the aged samples exhibited stronger cell walls with more/stronger pectic cross-linkages, and an increased Ca2+-pectin and ferulic acid-pectin crosslinking, primarily accumulated at the intercellular spaces. The results suggest a contribution of both the pectin-cation-phytate hypothesis and the involvement of phenolic pectin crosslinks in HTC development during storage of common beans.

Moisture sorption and thermodynamic properties of Camellia oleifera seeds as influenced by oil content

Guangfei Zhu et al.

Summary: The research investigated the moisture sorption isotherms and thermodynamic properties of Camellia oleifera seeds influenced by oil content. Different temperatures and water activities were used to determine the moisture desorption and adsorption isotherms for seeds, kernels, and shells of three varieties. The study found that equilibrium moisture contents tended to decrease with increasing oil content and temperature, and hysteresis of adsorption processes occurred during desorption and adsorption.
