Halophile wheatgrass Thinopyrum elongatum (Host) DR Dewey (Poaceae) in three Apulian coastal wetlands: vegetation survey and genetic diversity

Benedetta Margiotta et al.

Summary: Three coastal sites in Apulia, Italy were selected to study the vegetation, plant communities, ecological context, and genetic diversity of Thinopyrum elongatum population in humid habitats. The populations were found in salt marshes with specific plant communities, with the T area showing higher genetic variability and resistance to human pressure factors. The multidisciplinary approach used in this study may serve as a model for evaluating similar environments in the future.

Expression analysis and molecular modelling of hydrophilin LEA-2-like gene from wheat

Arun Dev Sharma et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated the existence of boiling soluble proteins (TaBsSRP3) in drought-tolerant wheat cultivars and their high expression under stress conditions. In silico analysis and 3D modeling predicted the stress-responsive and boiling stable properties of TaBsSRP3. These findings contribute to the understanding of the mechanisms by which boiling soluble proteins protect against water stress.

Comparative Analysis of Physiological, Enzymatic, and Transcriptomic Responses Revealed Mechanisms of Salt Tolerance and Recovery in Tritipyrum

Ze Peng et al.

Summary: Salt stress significantly decreases yield and quality in wheat. This study investigated the physiological, antioxidant enzyme, and transcriptomic responses and mechanisms of salt-tolerant Tritipyrum (Y1805) and salt-sensitive wheat Chinese Spring (CS) to salt stress and recovery. Y1805 exhibited stronger salt tolerance, higher activities of superoxide dismutase and catalase, and higher synthesis of proline and soluble sugars compared to CS under salt stress. Transcriptome analysis revealed differences in the transcriptional regulatory networks of Y1805 not only in response to salt stress, but also during recovery.

Characterization of AhLea-3 and its enhancement of salt tolerance in transgenic peanut plants

Lixian Qiao et al.

Summary: The overexpression of AhLea-3 gene increased the salt tolerance of transgenic peanut plants, resulting in less severe leaf wilting and higher activities of antioxidant enzymes. This suggests that AhLea-3 could be a valuable gene resource for breeding salt tolerance in peanuts.

Tissue culture-induced DNA methylation in crop plants: a review

Amrita Ghosh et al.

Summary: Plant tissue culture techniques are commonly used for commercial micropropagation, but may lead to genetic and epigenetic variations, including changes in DNA methylation pattern. These variations can impact plant phenotypes, and molecular techniques can be employed to detect DNA methylation. Understanding the molecular basis of DNA methylation can help in designing strategies to maintain clonal fidelity of regenerants in micropropagation systems.

Genome-wide identification, phylogenetic analysis and expression profiling of the late embryogenesis-abundant (LEA) gene family in Brachypodium distachyon

LiTing Ma et al.

Summary: Late embryogenesis-abundant (LEA) proteins, important gene products in plants, play crucial roles in regulating growth, development, and stress responses. In the study on Brachypodium distachyon L., 67 BdLEAs were identified, categorized into six subfamilies, with majority involved in stress response. This research sheds light on the characteristics and evolutionary aspects of BdLEA family, facilitating future functional studies on these proteins in model plant B. distachyon.
