Integrating RNA-seq with functional expression to analyze the regulation and characterization of genes involved in monoterpenoid biosynthesis in Nepeta tenuifolia Briq.

Licheng Liu et al.

Summary: Nepeta tenuifolia Briq. is a medicinal plant historically used in East Asia to treat cold and fever, and it is currently used as a clinically effective treatment for respiratory diseases. Through transcriptome sequencing and gene expression analysis, it was found that monoterpenoids are the dominant volatile secondary metabolites in N. tenuifolia and their biosynthesis mainly occurs in peltate glandular trichomes, providing an important resource for further research in this field.

Multi-omics analysis of the bioactive constituents biosynthesis of glandular trichome in Perilla frutescens

Peina Zhou et al.

Summary: Perilla frutescens (L.) Britt is a widely cultivated medicinal and edible plant in Asia, with terpenoids, flavonoids, and phenolic acids as the main medicinal ingredients. Glandular trichomes with multicellular structures are considered biochemical cell factories in which specialized metabolites are synthesized. This study explored the morphological features of glandular trichomes, metabolic profiling, and transcriptomes in different tissues of P. frutescens.
