Plant immune networks

Bruno Pok Man Ngou et al.

Summary: Plants have cell-surface and intracellular receptors to recognize pathogen effectors. These receptors, along with their coreceptors, form networks to mediate downstream immune responses. The cell-surface and intracellular immune systems are interdependent and function synergistically to provide robust resistance against pathogens.

Salicylic acid stabilizes Staphylococcus aureus biofilm by impairing the agr quorum-sensing system

Cristian Dotto et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that salicylic acid impairs biofilm dispersal of Staphylococcus aureus by interfering with agr expression, leading to reduced production of protease and surfactant molecules, as well as negative effects on bacterial cell autolysis. It also revealed the lack of extracellular DNA in the biofilm matrix. Additionally, in silico docking and simulation suggested a potential interaction between AgrA and SAL, resulting in reduced activity of the agr system.

Interkingdom Signaling Interference: The Effect of Plant-Derived Small Molecules on Quorum Sensing in Plant-Pathogenic Bacteria

Janak Raj Joshi et al.

Summary: In the battle between bacteria and plants, bacteria use quorum sensing to coordinate virulence gene expression, while plants defend themselves by interfering with quorum sensing mechanisms using low-molecular-weight compounds. Some plant compounds have been shown to directly inhibit bacterial communication systems, providing a basis for the design of novel antibacterial agents.

PTI-ETI crosstalk: an integrative view of plant immunity

Minhang Yuan et al.

Summary: Plants have innate immune responses to resist pathogen attacks, involving pattern-recognition receptors (PRRs) and nucleotide-binding domain leucine-rich repeat containing receptors (NLRs) that lead to pattern-triggered immunity (PTI) and effector-triggered immunity (ETI). Despite different activation mechanisms, PTI and ETI converge into similar downstream responses, with evidence of interactions and shared components between PRR-mediated and NLR-mediated signaling cascades. Future research on signal collaboration between PRR-initiated and NLR-initiated immunity will provide a more comprehensive understanding of the plant immune system.

Efficiency of microbial bio-agents as elicitors in plant defense mechanism under biotic stress: A review

Andleeb Zehra et al.

Summary: Microbial bio-control agents have the potential to replace toxic chemical compounds in controlling plant infections, offering a sustainable approach in agriculture. These agents work by inducing plant defense mechanisms and suppressing diseases through various modes of action, such as enzyme production and competitive inhibition.Efficient understanding of the interactions between these agents and plants at the cellular and molecular levels can lead to the development of effective and eco-friendly bio-agents, expanding the scope of microbial bio-control agents.
