Exogenous proline enhances salt tolerance in acclimated Aloe vera by modulating photosystem II efficiency and antioxidant defense

Ali Nakhaie et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of exogenous proline on physiological responses of salt-acclimated and non-acclimated Aloe vera plants under subsequent salt stress. Results showed that proline could effectively alleviate the deleterious effects of salinity, especially in salt-acclimated plants. Moreover, proline pretreatment improved the relative water content and PSII activity of the leaves, and reduced the accumulation of oxidative damage.

Molecular cloning and characterization of high-affinity potassium transporter (AlHKT2;1) gene promoter from halophyte Aeluropus lagopoides

Ankita Dave et al.

Summary: The HKT subfamily II functions as a Na+ - K+ co-transporter, providing resistance to salinity stress in plants. Through cloning and studying the promoter region of AlHKT2:1, it was found that deletion D2 may be sufficient to drive stress-inducible expression of genes involved in stress tolerance in plants.

Salt glands play a pivotal role in the salt resistance of four recretohalophyte Limonium Mill. species

P. Mi et al.

Summary: The study investigated the salinity thresholds of four Limonium species and found that total dry weight, chlorophyll content, and intercellular CO2 concentration were highly correlated with total fresh weights, serving as indicators of plant salt tolerance. Salt gland density, Na+ content, and Na+ secretion rate per salt gland were positively correlated with salt concentration, highlighting the importance of salt glands in adapting Limonium species to high salinity conditions.

Research advances in and prospects of ornamental plant genomics

Tangchun Zheng et al.

Summary: Ornamental plants refer to plants with aesthetic value, and China is known for its rich ornamental plant resources. Genomics plays a crucial role in understanding genome evolution and gene regulation in ornamental plants, but progress has been slow due to the diversity and high costs associated with sequencing. However, advancements in sequencing technologies have led to the completion of whole-genome sequencing of over 69 ornamental plants in less than 10 years.

Application of Exogenous Ascorbic Acid Modifies Growth and Pigment Content of Calendula officinalis L. Flower Heads of Plants Exposed to NaCl Stress

Farahnaz Azizi et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that the exogenous application of ascorbic acid (ASA) had significant effects on the growth and pigment content of Calendula officinalis L. flower heads under salinity stress, mitigating the adverse effects of NaCl stress. 6 mM ASA was more effective in enhancing growth and secondary metabolites of marigold compared to 3 mM ASA.

Identification and analysis of Chrysanthemum nankingense NAC transcription factors and an expression analysis of OsNAC7 subfamily members

Hai Wang et al.

Summary: NAC transcription factors play a vital role in plant growth and response to stress, making a systematic study of NAC TFs in chrysanthemum important for plant breeding. The OsNAC7 subfamily members were found to be involved in regulating growth under salt stress and enhancing resistance to salt and low temperatures.

Transcriptional Cascade in the Regulation of Flowering in the Bamboo Orchid Arundina graminifolia

Sagheer Ahmad et al.

Summary: Flowering in Arundina graminifolia is regulated by multiple mechanisms, with various key transcription factor families involved in the process. Different TFs respond to vernalization, photoperiod signaling, hormonal balance, and circadian pathway, highlighting the complexity of the genetic regulation in this unique flowering pattern. This study provides insights into the molecular mechanism of flowering in A. graminifolia.
