Papaya Leaf Curl Virus (PaLCuV) Infection on Papaya (Carica papaya L.) Plants Alters Anatomical and Physiological Properties and Reduces Bioactive Components

Sumit K. Soni et al.

Summary: The present investigation revealed that the infection of papaya leaves by PaLCuV resulted in significant changes in the anatomy, physiology, and pharmacological properties of the leaves. The infected leaves showed reduced stomatal density, photosynthesis rate, and enzymatic activity, while the size of guard cells, transpiration rate, and anthocyanin content increased. Moreover, the pharmacological potential of the infected leaves was significantly decreased.

Evolutionary dynamics of bipartite begomoviruses revealed by complete genome analysis

Cesar A. D. Xavier et al.

Summary: Several key evolutionary events have led to the emergence of geminiviruses with divided genomes, represented by the Begomovirus genus. These viruses show differential responses to evolutionary processes, with DNA-B being more permissive to variation and recombination compared to DNA-A. Despite geographic segregation, there are differences in genetic structure between DNA-A and DNA-B, belonging to distinct genetic clusters.
