Evaluation of Ceftazidime as an Antibiotic Supplement in Mannitol-Yolk-Polymyxin B Agar Used for Enumeration of Bacillus cereus in Ready-to-Eat Vegetables

Jung-Whan Chon et al.

Summary: Supplementation of mannitol-yolk-polymyxin B agar with ceftazidime improved selectivity for B. cereus group, particularly in ready-to-eat vegetables, without compromising bacteria recovery rate. This enhancement in selectivity is beneficial for accurate detection of bacteria in food testing.

Evaluation of the bacterial populations present in Spring Mix salad and their impact on the behavior of Escherichia coli O157:H7

Chao Liao et al.

Summary: The study analyzed the native bacterial populations in three brands of Spring Mix salads and their interaction with Escherichia coli O157:H7 (ECO157) during storage at 4 degrees C. Results showed that the brand factor significantly impacted the diversity and abundance of bacterial populations, while inoculation of ECO157 had a significant effect on the relative abundance and diversity of bacterial populations.

Comparison of droplet digital PCR vs real-time PCR for Yersinia enterocolitica detection in vegetables

D. Cristiano et al.

Summary: The study investigated the detection methods for Yersinia enterocolitica in leafy greens, finding that only ddPCR technology could detect the pathogen in leafy greens contaminated at low levels. Additionally, the incubation time and temperature were shown to significantly impact the survival and concentration of Yersinia enterocolitica in vegetables.
