The long non-coding RNA landscape of Candida yeast pathogens

Hrant Hovhannisyan et al.

Summary: Long non-coding RNAs have important roles in cellular processes, but are understudied in fungal pathogens like Candida. Hovhannisyan and Gabaldon analyze sequencing datasets to characterize the lncRNA repertoires of five Candida species, paving the way for future functional characterization.

An Overview on Identification and Regulatory Mechanisms of Long Non-coding RNAs in Fungi

Juan Li et al.

Summary: Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been confirmed to play important functions in key biological processes of different organisms for decades. While most identified lncRNAs are from mammalian systems, they have also been found in primitive eukaryotic fungi with different functions in fungal development, metabolism, and pathogenicity. Recent researches have focused on identifying lncRNAs and their regulatory roles in diverse biological processes in primitive eukaryotic fungi.

LncRNA DINOR is a virulence factor and global regulator of stress responses in Candida auris

Jiaxin Gao et al.

Summary: This study identified a mutant strain of Candida auris with disrupted long non-coding RNA, DINOR, which plays a role in stress response, morphogenesis, DNA damage, and replication. The upregulation of DINOR is induced by DNA-alkylating agents and exposure to various stressors, indicating its involvement in maintaining genome integrity and orchestrating multiple stress responses. Additionally, genetic interaction studies revealed links between DINOR function and TOR signaling pathway, providing potential insights for therapeutic development against C. auris.

Long Non-coding RNAs in Pathogenesis of Neurodegenerative Diseases

Shiyue Zhou et al.

Summary: Emerging evidence suggests that aberrant epigenetic regulation of gene expression is linked to the pathogenesis of neurological disorders such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and Huntington's disease. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), with lengths of 200 nt or more, play crucial roles in regulating various biological processes and contribute to the development of diseases at transcriptional and post-transcriptional levels. This review focuses on the latest research progress regarding how lncRNAs contribute to the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases through mechanisms like autophagy regulation, A beta deposition, neuroinflammation, Tau phosphorylation, and alpha-synuclein aggregation, while also highlighting the challenges in studying lncRNA-mediated epigenetics to understand the molecular mechanisms of these diseases further.
