Summary: The study identified several risk factors for ESBL-EB BSIs among solid organ transplant recipients, including prior ESBL-EB colonization, corticosteroid-containing immunosuppression regimen, corticosteroid treatment for acute rejection, and exposure to certain antibiotics. Further studies and interventions are needed to explore and address these modifiable risk factors in this population.

Antibiotic Resistant Bloodstream Infections in Pediatric Patients Receiving Chemotherapy or Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant: Factors Associated with Development of Resistance, Intensive Care Admission and Mortality

Elio Castagnola et al.

Summary: Bloodstream infections (BSI) caused by resistant Gram-negatives in children receiving antineoplastic chemotherapy or HSCT have high occurrence rates, with previous exposure to antibiotics or colonization of resistant pathogens being possible causes. Resistant Gram-negatives are significantly associated with ICU admission and mortality, with treating centers playing an important role in the outcome of treatment. The evidence of significant center-level variations on AR, ICU admission, and mortality emphasizes the need for careful local antibiotic stewardship and infection control programs.

Thomas A. F. Kite et al.

Summary: This study aimed to report the demographics, angiographic findings, and in-hospital outcomes of COVID-19 ACS patients and compare them with pre-COVID-19 cohorts. The study found that COVID-19-positive ACS patients experienced delayed presentation and had higher in-hospital mortality rates compared to the control subjects before the COVID-19 pandemic. Excessive rates of and mortality from cardiogenic shock were major contributors to the worse outcomes in COVID-19 positive STEMI patients.

Summary: This study found that COVID-19 infection is particularly severe in patients with hematological malignancies. Summary: An in-situ-sprayed immunotherapeutic gel loaded with anti-OX40 antibody (iSGels@aOX40) is reported for postsurgical treatment of colorectal cancer (CRC). The gel modulates tumor postoperative immune microenvironment and activates systemic antitumor immunity to inhibit tumor recurrence and metastasis. In mouse models, the iSGels@aOX40 show complete inhibition on tumor recurrence and establishment of immune memory effects, indicating great potential for clinical CRC therapy.

Summary: This study retrospectively investigated the relationship between serum amyloid protein A (SAA), procalcitonin (PCT), C-reactive protein (CRP), and PICC infection in patients with malignant tumor. The levels of SAA, PCT, and CRP were significantly higher in the infection group, and were positively correlated with the degree of PICC catheter infection.
