Interplay between hevin, SPARC, and MDGAs: Modulators of neurexin-neuroligin transsynaptic bridges

Shanghua Fan et al.

Summary: This study reveals the molecular basis of a regulatory network formed by the proteins Hevin, SPARC, and MDGA, showing that Hevin competes with SPARC and MDGA to regulate synaptogenic effects and extracellular matrix interactions by binding to overlapping sites on neuroligin.

Endogenous β-neurexins on axons and within synapses show regulated dynamic behavior

Oliver Klatt et al.

Summary: Neurexins play a crucial role in regulating synaptic function and are associated with autism and schizophrenia. The study found that endogenous beta-neurexins are not evenly distributed in neurons, present in fewer than half of synapses. Furthermore, a large pool of extrasynaptic beta-neurexins on axons was observed, with their surface mobility dynamically regulated by neuronal activity.
