Mechanistic investigation of elemental mercury adsorption over silver-modified vanadium silicate: A DFT study

Zijian Zhou et al.

Summary: The study systematically investigated the reaction mechanism and active sites of Hg-0 adsorption on EVS-Ag sorbent using density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The results showed that Ag-2 cluster is the most active site for Hg-0 adsorption and the orbital hybridization between silver and mercury atoms plays a crucial role in the strong interaction between EVS-Ag surface and Hg-0.

Recovering gaseous Hg0 using sulfureted phosphotungstic acid modified γ-Fe2O3 from power plants burning Hg-rich coal for centralized control

Chang Wang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated the use of sulfureted phosphotungstic acid modified gamma-Fe2O3 as a promising sorbent for recovering gaseous elemental mercury (Hg-0) from coal-fired flue gas, with excellent enrichment and capture capabilities, as well as thermal stability for multiple reuse and regeneration. This eco-friendly and cost-effective technology shows potential for centralized control of Hg pollution emitted from power plants burning high mercury content coal.

Elemental mercury removal from coal gas by CeMnTi sorbents and their regeneration performance

Hui Cao et al.

Summary: CeMnTi sorbents, modified by Mn and Ce doping, showed high efficiency in removing elemental mercury, with the presence of H2S and O2 significantly enhancing mercury removal ability, while CO and H2 had a minor inhibitory effect on mercury adsorption. Thermal regeneration at higher temperatures was beneficial for sorbent reuse, but the formation of sulfates and sulfites in the presence of H2S led to a decrease in mercury removal efficiency.
