Simulation of the cooking organic aerosol concentration variability in an urban area

Evangelia Siouti et al.

Summary: Cooking activities are a source of urban air pollution that is often overlooked. By simulating and analyzing cooking organic aerosol (COA) emissions in the Greek city of Patras, it was found that dinner and lunch times are peak periods for COA emissions, while the local production of secondary COA is slow.

From low-cost sensors to high-quality data: A summary of challenges and best practices for effectively calibrating low-cost particulate matter mass sensors

Michael R. Giordano et al.

Summary: Low-cost sensors for particulate matter mass (PM) provide spatially dense, high temporal resolution measurements of air quality, especially beneficial in low and middle-income countries with limited reference grade measurements. However, these sensors also face challenges that must be addressed to ensure data quality.

Calibration of low-cost PurpleAir outdoor monitors using an improved method of calculating PM2.5

Lance Wallace et al.

Summary: Hourly PM2.5 measurements from PurpleAir monitors and nearby EPA stations in California were compared over an 18-month period, using an alternative calculation method (ALT) which outperformed Plantower's estimates. A calibration factor was empirically derived for PurpleAir estimates, showing different responses to wildfire smoke compared to normal ambient PM2.5.
