Effects of operating conditions on PM oxidative potential assays

Maria Agostina Frezzini et al.

Summary: This study investigated the influence of different operating conditions on the response of various assays for measuring oxidative potential (OP), finding that ultrasonic bath extraction increased OPDCFH values, while rotating agitator extraction resulted in the highest repeatability. Storage time and conditions significantly affected results, and samples collected on PTFE membranes showed significantly higher results for OPAA. Further investigations are needed on the contribution of water-insoluble PM components to OP.

Modified Xenopus laevis approach (R-FETAX) as an alternative test for the evaluation of foetal valproate spectrum disorder

Maria Battistoni et al.

Summary: In this study, a refined alternative amphibian method (R-FETAX) was proposed to evaluate chemical induced embryotoxicity. Using the amphibian Xenopus laevis as the model, which has more comparable organ development and morphology to mammalian systems, the study found that different effects of valproate were observed depending on the exposure window, including embryo-lethal and teratogenic effects, as well as neurobehavioral deficits.
