Construction of the amide/peptide bond is a common transformation in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries. Traditional methods using organic solvents have negative impacts on the environment and worker health. Therefore, academia and industry are searching for greener and more sustainable synthetic methods.
Construction of the amide/peptide bond is one of the most encountered transformations in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries.Traditional protocols rely on the use of undesirable organic solvents, such asN,N-dimethylformamide (DMF),N-methyl pyrrolidone (NMP), or dichloro-methane (CH2Cl2). These solvents adversely impact the environment, workers'safety, and health. This has led academia and industry to search anddevelop greener and more sustainable amide forming synthetic protocols toincrease performance in terms of yield and selectivity and avoid or reduce thedependency in these hazardous solvents. The following account discusses therecent development of amide/peptide bond formation in water
